Daedalus and Icarus

Daedalus son of Meson from Athens Greece was a renowned architect and inventor. He was instrumental in the scheme of queen Pasiphae of Knossos. This queen was obsessed for a white bull which Poseidon had sent to the court. The outcome of this was that she was impregnated and gave birth to the monster called the minotaur. The minator was half man and half bull. After the Minotor was born Daedalus built maze to house him Minos the king demanded youths from Athens tin order to feed this man beast. The hero Theseus attempted to kill the Minator the daughter of the king and queen Ariadne fell in love with Theseus and pleaded with Daedalus to help Theseus slay the beast Daedalus gave her thread for Theseus to tie to the front if the Labyrinth so that he could find his way out after killing the Minator Theseus and his new love fled after he destroyed the monster, and the king so outraged by the scheme he shut Daedalus and his son Icarus in a tower. In order for Daedalus to escape fro m this prison the genius created wings out of feathers and wax for himself and his son

They managed ti flee from Crete but Icarus not listening to his fathers orders to not fly too high to the sun or too low over the waves of the strait that they had to flyover in order to reach freedom; fell into the sea and was lost.

Minos infuriated set out to find Daedalus he concocted a scheme to find the great inventor he offered a reward to the person who could thread a spiral seashell. The famous Daedalus tied a thread to an ant thereby the ant found his was out of the other end of the shell.

Again the king Minos believed that he had the power to destroy Daedalus ,but the king of the land where Daedalus had found freedom was fond of Daedalus and persuaded king Minos to spend the night at the castle Minos agreed and was murdered by the kings daughters.

For centuries people of Athens were so enthralled by the ingenious Daedalus that they laid claim to his heritage .
